Customs regulations

Duty and duty free quota

After a stay of at least 24 hours outside of Norway, you can import goods with a total value of NOK 6 000 duty-free.

If you have been outside Norway for less than 24 hours, you can import goods with a total value of NOK 3,000 duty and duty free. The import of the allowance for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products is only permitted if it can be documented that the taxes have been paid in another EEA country. This means that purchases are not possible in duty-free shops.

Within the value limit of NOK 6,000 or NOK 3,000, you can import the following goods duty-free:

Spirituosen: über 22 und bis 60 Vol.-% (1 Liter)

Wein: über 2,5 und bis 22 Vol.-% (1,5 Liter)

Bier: über 2,5 Vol.-% (auch Starkbier) oder Alcopop bzw. Cidre über 2,5 und bis 4,7 Vol.-% (2 Liter)

Spirits: over 22 and up to 60% by volume (1 liter)

Wine: over 2.5 and up to 22% by volume (1.5 liters)

Beer: over 2.5% by volume (including strong beer) or alcopop or cider over 2.5% and up to 4.7% by volume (2 liters)

The allowance for spirits can be converted into 1.5 liters of wine or beer, alcopop or cider. The wine allowance can be converted into beer, alcopop or cider at a 1:1 ratio. Wine, beer, alcopop and cider cannot be converted into beverages with a higher alcohol content.

Tobacco products:

200 cigarettes or 250 g of other smoking tobacco products and 200 sheets of cigarette paper

The allowance for tobacco products can be converted into 1.5 liters of wine or beer, alcopop or cider.

More customs regulations for Norway

Up to 10 kilograms of fresh fruit, vegetables or berries may be imported for your holiday in Norway, but only from the European Economic Area (EEA). Potatoes are exempt from this regulation, for which a special permit is required at customs.

Taking pets to Norway

If you are taking a pet with you from the EU, Croatia, Switzerland, Liechtenstein or Iceland, customs regulations in Norway are clear and simple: all pets must be clearly identifiable with a microchip. The following veterinary treatments must be provided with the identification number.

A rabies vaccination must be completed 21 days before entry. Dogs need to endure a tapeworm cure, cats don’t. You can bring a maximum of 5 animals and go through the red customs entrance, present the documents – done. And pet food is not subject to quantity restrictions.

15 kilos of fish and a trophy for anglers

It is important for anglers that only 15 kg of fish and one “trophy fish” can be taken out of the Norwegian coastal waters. There is no quantity limit for deep-sea and freshwater fish as long as the private purpose is not in question.

And of course you are not allowed to take anything with you that is under protection. This applies to plants, animals and also to cultural goods.
